Shane Nichols and Dean Yendall's record continues to shine as they prepare to combine with Streets Of Avalon on Saturday in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. Yendall and Nichols were able to get their eye in with a win on Thursday at Bet365 Echuca, with Expectant winning the last of the day, the Think Water Echuca BM64 Handicap over 1200m. Expectant relished getting back on the turf after two placings on the Synthetic at Ballarat. "He showed a bit of promise there at his last couple at Ballarat on the Synthetics," Yendall said after the race. "Today, we just had the right run. I followed Frosty (Damian Lane) everywhere he went on his horse. I was able to come to the outside and ask for an effort, and he's put them away quite comfortably. "Good win and great to get another winner for this association." Yendall will ride Streets Of Avalon in the Group 1 on Saturday as regular rider Zac Spain is unavailable. "It's a big load of confidence heading into Saturday the way everything is going, so it always helps," Yendall added. Yendall and Nichols have previously combined for Group 1 glory withI Am A Star. The filly won the Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day in 2016. Expectant is by former Spendthrift Australia shuttle stallion Jimmy Creed and is also out of an American bred mare, Ramsey's Bet. She is a full sister to Group 1 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint winner Bobby's Kitten, who had a brief stint shuttling to Twin Hills. It was the second win of his career from 14 starts. The four-year-old gelding has also placed five times. Expectant was purchased by Nichols at the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for $30,000. The win takes his total earnings to just shy of $100,000.
